Literature’s path from luxury to necessity in Nigeria

UILF 2025

Poets and writers Logan February, Lola Shoneyin and Abubakar Ibrahim have all been described as provocateurs who disrupt the traditional order not only in their homeland Nigeria but throughout Africa. Despite controversial depictions of female sexuality, same-sex love, criticism of patriarchy and corruption, they have achieved great popularity.

They meet here in a conversation, led by the festival’s Mikael Olsson Al Safandi, about a rapidly growing book market in Nigeria where books are still a luxury.
